TRAINING | HARMONY | COMMUNITY
The Michigan Budokan, Inc., is an educational 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity established in 2023 by the instructors of Huron Valley Aikikai to provide educational programming, equipment, and spaces to support the continued development of the martial arts and other traditional and modern mind/body disciplines in our State.
"Budokan" is a Japanese word which simply means "Martial Arts/Ways Training Hall," and one of the principal goals of the Michigan Budokan is to identify and acquire a permanent property in the Ann Arbor area from which to offer programs in Aikido and other traditional Asian martial arts, meditation, and related activities involving the development of the mind-body connection. The Budokan will be offered as a community space and home for groups that often must make do in tenuous arrangements not well suited to their activities.
For now, our "training hall" remains an aspiration, though one we intend to make a physical reality as quickly as possible. In the meantime, as we continue to raise funds for a permanent property, the Michigan Budokan will serve as a virtual training hall, doing what we can to support groups aligned with our mission as opportunities present themselves.
